Individual & Group Counseling for Drug Addicttion & Alcohol AbuseDuring the outpatient treatment process, one of the most commonly used methods of treatment is counseling. Most treatment facilities, whether they are inpatient, outpatient or both, have therapists and social workers on site to counsel patients. Individual counseling takes place between one patient and a therapist or social worker. These types of one-on-one meetings probably occur one to three times a week depending on the length and structure of the program. Group counseling sessions are held on a more regular basis, most likely four to five times during the week. These counseling sessions are held between all the members of outpatient treatment a selected number of therapists or social workers. Often times there is only one counselor facilitating the group, however the facilitator may vary from day to day and focus on different issues. Since each counselor probably has received more in-depth training in a certain area, he/she brings that expertise into the group counseling arena. The topic of counseling sessions may vary from day to day and week to week. Some sessions may discuss issues such as relapse prevention, transition skills and 12-step meetings, while others may deal with family issues and personal relationships. Still other groups may focus on the issues of particular individuals or issues that the group may be struggling with as a whole. Whatever the case these sessions are beneficial to all who are involved. Although patients may not be able to relate specifically to all topics, they are able to relate on a broader sense and most likely all of the topics will emerge for them sometime during their treatment process. Both individual and group counseling
sessions are crucial to the outpatient process. At Gulf Coast Recovery’s
Outpatient Treatment Program we focus on these two types of counseling
so that we can uncover deeper issues and help establish a strong basis
in recovery. Our services are comprehensive and work to treat all types
of addiction and alcoholism. Please do not hesitate to get the help
you deserve. |
