Drug Alcohol Relapse Prevention

The Outpatient Treatment Program offers workshops and individualized sessions in relapse prevention since relapse tends to be common among people in early recovery. While most people seeking rehabilitation do not have the intention to relapse, life and life’s problems tend to crop up and if they are not identified immediately as triggers, then often lead to relapse into addiction and alcoholism.

The Outpatient Program understands the importance of being able to identify the warning signs related to relapse. Our specialists work closely with each patient through writing, individual and group counseling to make plans about how to deal with each trigger effectively. At Gulf Coast Recovery’s Outpatient Program comprehensive treatment is key to lasting recovery. Our programs focus not only on freedom from alcohol and drug addiction, but also provide lifestyle changes that will assist patients in daily living after treatment.

Relapse erupts out of fear, stress, and basically every other natural human emotion that occurs in early sobriety. Instead of having alcohol or drugs to cope with these feelings new behaviors have to be made in order to prevent relapse. Just because a person enters recovery does not mean all of life’s problems will be solve. Often times newly sober addicts have wreckage that was created as a result of their addiction and they must take proactive steps to remain broken bridges.

Instead of turning to old behaviors as the first solution to new problems, our graduated patients have the ability and skills necessary to overcome cravings and obsessive thoughts. Our relapse prevention program also suggests that departing clients become involved with a support system, in most cases, these supports are 12-step programs and friends. Relying on a sober group of people to help aid in difficult times takes the pressure to drink or use drugs away from the addict. These programs are often one of the best tools that a person in early recovery can have.
